 Many of you may have seen Dr. Brian Weiss with whom I trained on the Oprah Super SoulSunday show. He is a Yale trained psychiatrist who is a proponent of past life regression therapy. Oprah interviewed him recently regarding his new book Miracles Happen:The Transformational Power of Past Life Memories that was co-authored with his daughter Amy.

Miracles Happen co-author Amy Weiss was also interviewed and described her own personal regression experience in a simple but happy life as an elderly Japanese man and what she learned from it.
“The Japanese man’s joy had nothing to do with outside events, and outside events did not steal the joy from him. I could learn so much from him…”

Amy contrasted that past life with her current life which is very different. She had not been able to shake off a depression of sorts that prevented such happiness from ever being within reach. “In my present life, for many years I had struggled with what seemed to be pervasive sadness and discontent. Sometimes I could clearly point to a biological component. Sometimes an awful event happened in the world that brought me to my knees where I found myself unable to stand again. And sometimes I just looked at the news, at the incalculable and imaginative things people do to hurt one another, and felt so tired…behind it all there was a melancholy that didn’t make sense to me.”

“…I realized that depression was something I had taken on in this lifetime, that it was not a part of my soul itself. It was a heavy coat I had chosen to wear in order to learn an important lesson , but a coat can always be removed. No one mistakes a coat hanging in a closet for the person who wears it. It was not me: how could it be?
Sadness was not a fundamental part of my soul. My soul had just dipped into that experience to learn what it felt like, to see what it might teach me. But my soul did not possess or become it, and I did not need to identify with it, to claim it any longer. These insights, gained in a split second, forever changed the way I saw myself.”

Amy also stated in the interview:

“Many people who undergo a regression and successfully remember a past life are able to watch the scenes unfold like a movie, witnessing the life in a linear fashion from birth to death. Others see nothing but simply “know” what is happening. Past lives can appear in dreams, in experiences of déjà vu. They may be nothing more than a snapshot, a glimpse of a scene. It is not necessarily the events of a lifetime that heal the person remembering it; Some regressions are powerful not for the concrete details they provide but for the deeply transcendent emotions they generate.”

In Memory of Debbie Ford

Debbie Ford, New York Times best selling author of many books including “The Dark Side of the Light Chasers” died recently of cancer at the age of 57. I will always be grateful to her for endorsing my “Soul Visioning” book in 2008 and the courageous contribution she made to the importance of reclaiming our “shadow” parts.

We shared a common belief that we need to own our “shadow” self (the parts that are hidden, disowned and disdained). Debbie said, “There are parts of ourselves that we are unaware of or we’re in denial of or the parts of ourselves that we don’t like, that we feel ashamed of or embarrassed by, that we suppress. We spend our time, sometimes knowingly, sometimes unknowingly, hiding them.”

“In trying to express only those aspects of ourselves that we believe will guarantee us the acceptance of others, we suppress some of our most valuable features and sentence ourselves to a life of reenacting the same drama with the same outworn script. Reclaiming the parts of ourselves that we have relegated to the shadow is the most reliable path to actualizing our human potential. Once befriended, our shadow becomes a divine map that reconnects us to the life we were meant to live and the people we were meant to be. We do have to, ultimately, bring the shadow out of the shadows and bring it to the light.”

There are many ways to discover and heal our “shadow self” including past life regression, dream interpretation, forgiveness, hypnotherapy, and mindfulness. I address this in my Soul Visioning book. (Chapter 4: What is Really Holding You Back?) To embrace all parts of ourselves without condemnation allows us to heal it and correct the misperceptions of who we think we are. According to Carl Jung, we need to find the “gold in the dark” and realize that there are gifts hidden in our shadow.

Beyond 12-12-12: A Positive Future

I am hopeful about our future and see the tensions we are going through as birthing pains as we move from the Piscean age of the past to the Aquarian age, which brings in sharing, originality, equality, reform, freedom, and group consciousness.

Yes, there is push back and polarization as we move through this transition which comes with the territory of transformation.  However, I believe we will evolve beyond this old energy.  We have a choice in our own personal lives and collectively to create a positive future. 


I hear some “doom and gloom” scenarios being talked about and have heard these predictions repeated it seems every 10 years or so.  I grew up in Miami Florida which was 90 miles from Cuba and lived through the Bay of Pigs crisis where people were building shelters, buying property in the mountains to escape and living in fear.  I lived through the Y2K scare where everything was supposed to collapse.  But I also lived to see the Soviet Union fall apart and the Berlin wall come down.  

My belief is that we have the power to create our future. We can  focus on our destruction or we can focus on transformation.  From my perspective, the outer reflects the inner world.  If we want true transformation, we must heal our own consciousness.

Future Life Progression

One of the reasons that I offer past life and future life progression and Soul Visioning sessions and workshops is that it can be a glimpse into what is in our own consciousness like a Rorschach inkblot test.  The good news is that futures are flexible and can be changed based on the choices we make today.  The more we heal the unconscious “trunk of junk” from past patterns and limiting beliefs, the more we remember who we are as spiritual beings and our oneness with everyone. 

In addition, I wrote my Soul Visioning: Clear the Past, Create Your Future book to offer a process for identifying those blocks that hold us back from creating our guided ideal future and how to clear the barriers to living a life of passion and purpose in work, relationships, health, finances and spirituality.

Breakthrough Trends in Spirituality and Science


We recently returned from San Diego, where we attended the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology conference (ACEP).  There were many interesting speakers including Dr. Amit Goswami, the well known physicist, who appeared in the movie “What the Bleep Do We Know?” and Dr. Dan Benor who endorsed my book and developed the WHEE method.  This method is a hybrid of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), a form of bilateral brain stimulation and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).  These energy methods are like “acupuncture for the emotions without the needles” to clear limiting beliefs, phobias, traumas, pain, PTSD, anxiety, anger, sadness, food cravings, etc.   I discuss these techniques with step by step instructions in my book “Soul Visioning: Clear the Past, Create Your Future” and use them in my private practice.  I know from personal experience that this works because it has helped me with a public speaking phobia and fear of heights.

The New Science

The trend that I noted among many speakers is the idea that we are not victims of our genes.  Even though we may have a genetic predisposition we don’t necessarily have to be held hostage to our genetic makeup.  Some of the scientists that are talking about this are Dr. Bruce Lipton, author of “The Biology of Belief” and Dr. Joe Dispenza, author of “Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind.”  They both point out that some of the current research is showing that genes are not fixed and can be modified through our thinking.  Dr. Lipton explained that it can take ten years before these new research ideas get into the textbooks.  However, those of us in the field know this already and see it on a regular basis – how people have changed their ancestry of limiting beliefs and disease states.  The paradigm of quantum/holographic experience changes the reality of what is possible.  The therapies that I use are based on these concepts, such as Holographic Memory Resolution, Energy Psychology, Past Life/Between Lives/Future Life hypnotherapy and Soul Visioning.

Breakthrough trends continued – Gary Craig (Creator of the Emotional Freedom Technique)

Gary Craig who was one of the keynote speakers is an engineer who has helped thousands of people through teaching his meridian/pressure point tapping technique called the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Gary and his daughter, Tina, who now heads up the EFT certification program at ACEP.

In Gary’s keynote speech I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Gary has studied “A Course in Miracles” (ACIM) for many years. ACIM is a spiritual psychology self-study system contained in a set of 3 books. It teaches that the way to universal love and peace is by undoing guilt through forgiving others. He explained that ACIM is very consistent with quantum physics in that 1) Our senses are unreliable 2) We create our own perceptions 3) We live in an illusion 4) There is no time/space 5) We are one. It is like we are living in a dream world, dreaming a dream of separation from Source/The Divine/God and have forgotten who we really are as spiritual beings. We are in the process of awakening from that dream to the recognition that we never left “Home” or the “Oneness”.

December’s News: Mercury in Retrograde & Holiday Stress


This time of the year is often the busiest time in my private practice as a holistic psychotherapist helping people to manage the stress of the holidays.  The expectations of the season are often unrealistic with shopping, decorating, parties, trying to please everyone with gifts, etc.  Unfortunately, at a time when we should be enjoying being with family and friends and celebrating the meaning of this sacred time, we are overloaded with too much to do and little time to accomplish it all.

 Mercury in Retrograde

To complicate matters, the planet mercury is in retrograde (looks like it is moving backwards).  This happens three times annually for three weeks. (This one will be over December 14.)   When this occurs, communications  can be confused leading to the need to repeat or correct them.  Travel can be disrupted and delays are also normal during this time frame.  It is usually not the best time to sign contracts, to buy cars or electronic equipment.  It is not life threatening but causes minor glitches and disruptions which can contribute to the holiday stress.  It is a good time to practice patience or to review the past, such as, doing a past life regression.

Suggestions For Dealing With the Holiday Stress 

Getting overwhelmed at this time of the year is quite common.  I want to offer you some simple suggestions for navigating the challenges of the holidays.  It is so important to take a breather and take relaxation breaks.  Different things work for different people and you have to find what works for you.   For example,

1. Take a mini vacation in your mind by taking a couple of deep breaths and imagine yourself in a beautiful, safe place in nature, such as the ocean, mountain, meadow,  garden, forest or your favorite place to relax.  Immerse yourself with all of your senses by noticing the colors of your surroundings, hear the sounds of nature, smell the fragrances of the outdoors, feel the breeze against your skin.  Even a brief 5 minutes of doing this once or twice a day can keep the stress from accumulating.

2. Lower expectations for the holidays.  You don’t have to be perfect and please everyone.  Many people are starting a tradition of giving money to a charity rather than giving expensive gifts that are quickly discarded.

3.   Practice forgiveness of others’ mistakes with the idea that we also have made enough of our own.  Smile at the cashier in the store or practice patience with the servers who might be slow or extend kindness to someone that needs it.

4.  Meditation calms the “monkey mind” and restores a sense of inner peace.  If you have trouble with this (which many people do) you can do a movement meditation, such as yoga. Dr. Brian Weiss, with whom I trained, has

5.   Practice “an attitude of gratitude.”   Read a wonderful article on 10 steps to cultivating gratefulness.


6.  Listen to a  guided imagery CD for stress.  Belleruth Naparstek has some of the best guided relaxation CDs with beautiful music and a great soothing voice and words.  You can order them from Amazon.com

7.  Walking or gentle exercise is a great stress reliever even if it is only a few minutes.

8.  Listen to your favorite relaxing music.

9.  Take a sea salt bath with lavender.  I like the Masada or Himalayan (Solay) brands of sea salt.

10.  Get a massagefor relaxation.  Put yourself at the top of your list for a change.

11-11-11 Auspicious Day to Join Together in Meditation


I hope that you will join me today for a few moments of quiet time to take advantage of this remarkable day where thousands of people will be joining together to send positive thoughts and energy to our planet.

The number 11 in numerology is a “master” number and stands for illumination and connection between the Divine and human. It represents the planet Uranus which brings extreme insights and liberation from conventional thinking, innovation and invention. This planetary influence also represents the psychic and Soul nature of humanity.

You can just take a few minutes any time today to close your eyes, quiet your mind, and say a prayer of goodwill and blessing for our world and each other. Whenever you do this today you will be joining with many others in different time zones and countries who are sending the intention of love, forgiveness and peace. Whenever a large group of people come together to meditate there is a counterbalancing consciousness that is very much needed right now as we go through many transitions individually and collectively.

If we go to the still place within us and remember our True Nature as spiritual beings we reconnect with that center of peace and oneness with the Divine. So no matter whatever conflict is happening in the outer world we can always return to the calm within us. Although today provides an amazing opportunity we must cultivate this mindfulness practice for ourselves on a daily basis.

So perhaps you could just close your eyes take some deep breaths and focus on the feeling of peace or your own personal ideal of compassion, joy, love for even 5 minutes today.

Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology Conference Highlights

I recently returned from the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP) conference in Virginia, where I enjoyed meeting new like-minded people, hearing some great visionary speakers and signing my books.  I will share with you in upcoming posts some of the highlights

Energy Psychology

Energy psychology is often referred to as accupuncture for the emotions without the needles. Some of the more common forms include the EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), TAT (Tapas Accupressure Technique), and WHEE method (Whole Health Effortlessly and Easily). These interventions address:

  •  Energy pathways (meridians and acupoints),
  •  Energy centers (chakras)
  • Energy systems (the human biofield that envelops the body).

They are used for the treatment of emotional challenges such as addictions and compulsions, anxiety, depression, limiting beliefs, personality disorders, phobias, stress, and trauma.

I use energy psychology in my psychotherapy practice and write about these methods in my book “Soul Visioning: Clear the Path, Create Your Future”. In chapter 5, “New Methods to Clear Your Path”, I teach the reader simple step-by-step techniques of EFT and WHEE to clear unconscious limiting beliefs. For those people that need more than just a self help approach, I integrate many different methods that quickly get

to the root cause of the issue including past life, between lives regression, hypnotherapy, holographic memory resolution, EMDR (bilateral brain stimulation technique), EFT, TAT, and WHEE.

Treating Large-Scale Trauma Disaster with Energy Psychology (ACEP highlights con’t)

With all of the world disasters that are happening right now, earthquakes, floods, fires, tornadoes, radiation accidents, genocide, etc, it is good to know that there are healing interventions to help the victims who have survived these. Not only have there been national and world wide devastation, many of us have experienced secondary trauma by witnessing or hearing about it.

One of the workshops I attended talked about how Energy Psychology (tapping certain meridian points) is being used successfully in communities devastated by large-scale trauma including Rwanda, New Orleans, Japan and other hard hit countries. Trauma teams from ACEP and other organizations taught key people in the community like health care workers, teachers and orphanage directors how to use these techniques, which increased the number of people who got treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. What is remarkable about energy psychology is that the results are quick and simple and can be easily taught.
